Benjamin Nygren’s 14 goal of the season put Celtic on their way to a 4-2 victory over FC Utrecht and a place in the play-off round of the UEFA Europa League.
The Swedish midfielder opened the scoring after just six minutes, and then provided an assist for Celtic’s second goal four minutes later, with Nick Viergever putting the ball into his own net.
And Martin O’Neill’s side will find out their play-off opponents on Friday, with either VfB Stuttgart or Ferencvaros set to face the Hoops.
Speaking to Celtic TV after the game, Benjamin Nygren said: “All we wanted tonight was to get the win and get to the next round, so I’m very happy.
“We spoke about it a lot, not to give them any time on the ball, and we came out flying, pressed them as hard as we could and we got three pretty quick goals just like we wanted.
“In football, every goal counts as much. I just try to be in the right positions all the time in the box and then balls will come.
“Either team (Stuttgart or Ferencvaros) will be fine. We’re just happy to get to the next round and we’re looking forward to doing well in this competition.”
