Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko has been nominated for a prestigious award following his fine run of form for the club.
Sesko has been rejuvenated under Michael Carrick and has emerged as the club’s most clutch player over the past few games.
He particularly enjoyed a superb February as United went unbeaten the entire month. He came off the bench to score three times in the games against Fulham, West Ham United and Everton.
United seemed to be cruising towards a certain victory at 2-0 against Fulham, but goals from Raul Jimenez and Kevin threatened to spoil the party and force a share of the spoils. In the final minutes, Carrick turned to Sesko and the substitute delivered spectacularly. The Slovenian produced an exceptional turn and swivel before smashing home to make it 3-2, snatching the victory back for United.
Sesko was the hero of the day for United in their subsequent meeting at West Ham. The Hammers broke the deadlock early in the second half and retreated into a low block in an effort to protect their advantage.
They looked on course for all three points but Sesko had other ideas. He met a sublime ball from Bryan Mbeumo and applied a top-class finish from an impossible angle to lift United from the jaws of defeat.
Sesko followed that up by scoring the only goal of the Red Devils’ 1-0 victory over Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. He raced the length of the pitch and left James Tarkowski in his wake before burying the ball into the bottom corner.
Sesko was named United’s Player of the Month for February and now, the Premier League have confirmed that he is in contention for the top-flight’s equivalent.
Sesko will need to ward off competition from five other players to claim the award, which would be his first since joining United last summer.
Other players who are vying for the accolade are Viktor Gyokeres (Arsenal), Nico O’Reilly (Manchester City), Antoine Semenyo (Manchester City), Dango Ouattara (Bournemouth) and Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool).
You can vote for Sesko here. The polls close on Monday.
Meanwhile, United will be looking to get back to winning ways on March 15, when they host Aston Villa at Old Trafford.
