Benjamin Sesko feels that Michael Carrick believes in him, even as the Manchester United head coach has not yet picked his increasingly prolific substitute to begin a game yet.
The Slovenia international has scored three important goals in Carrick’s reign, but all in cameos, and Sesko said he is not thinking that he has to start.
The summer signing came off the bench to get a winner against Everton on Monday, following on from an injury-time decider against Fulham and an equaliser at West Ham.
Carrick has said he has a good relationship with Sesko and the 22-year-old added: “We are talking of course but [Carrick] believes in me, everyone believes in me, they are getting me ready to start as soon as possible. It’s more about me showing up when it’s important, no matter how many minutes I’m getting I’m focusing on delivering and trying to help the team secure the wins.
“I’m getting settled in the league from game to game. Again, I’m not even thinking about, ‘I have to start, I have to start’. For me, it’s just whenever the coach decides to put there one time or not I’m just going to be there. If I get the next minutes, five minutes, I’m going to use them and for me it’s just about trying to enjoy and delivering for the team.”
Sesko only scored two goals in 17 games under the sacked Ruben Amorim and has been more prolific since, with three in Darren Fletcher’s two games in interim charge and now three more for Carrick.
He has been working with coach Travis Binnion and praised the new-look backroom team at Old Trafford.

“The coaching staff in general, not just Carrick, but also the others he has beside him are unbelievable,” he said. “They are working on individuals and you can see that on the pitch.”
Sesko’s goal at Everton came from a move that included fellow summer buys Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
And while each is in the spotlight after a big-money move to Old Trafford, the former RB Leipzig player said he relishes the challenge.
“For me the way I look at the pressure it’s something that if I want to be a good player it’s something that I have to have,” he explained. “I take it as a privilege. It’s something that has [to be there] if you want to play at the highest level and it’s about accepting it and not really caring about it. For me it didn’t really affect me and I don’t think for Cunha and Bryan as well.”
