Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer has picked up an injury while away on international duty with Algeria and is now expected to return to Milanello ahead of schedule to undergo treatment with Paulo Fonseca’s medical staff.
The Algeria national football team have released an official update after Sunday’s training session confirming that Bennacer will not be able to participate in the next AFCON qualifier.
Bennacer was named in the starting line-up as Algeria recorded a 2-0 victory at home to Equatorial Guinea on Thursday evening, but he will now have to skip Tuesday’s qualifier against Liberia in Paynesville.
The precise nature of Bennacer’s injury has not yet been disclosed, but he is expected to travel back to Milan in the coming hours to have further tests that should provide, which should provide the Rossoneri staff with a clearer picture as to his recovery time.
As it stands, he is expected to miss Milan’s visit from Venezia in Serie A on Saturday.
It will be a big week for the Rossoneri after that, as they are due to play Liverpool in the first round of Champions League fixtures of the 2024-25 campaign next Tuesday, before a Derby della Madonnina against Inter in Serie A the weekend afterwards.
