Benoît Millot has been elected president of the elite football referees’ union, SAFE, following Saturday’s general assembly, L'Équipe reports.

Aged 44, he is concluding his 15th season in Ligue 1, where he has taken charge of nearly 300 matches.

He succeeds Bastien Dechepy as president.

Millot was also an international referee until January 2024 and took charge of the 2023 Coupe de France final.

The union’s executive board for 2026-2029 comprises seven members, including delegated vice-presidents Abdelatif Kherradji and Laurent Stien.
