Despite severing ties with Simone Inzaghi last summer, the 20-time Serie A champions have pieced together another impressive season.

Indeed, new boss Cristian Chivu is on course to win the Scudetto in his first season in charge.

Sitting eight points clear of second-placed AC Milan, Inter are in firm control of the title race in Italy’s top flight.

Furthermore, the Nerazzurri will take on Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Champions League knockout playoffs.

Seeking another standout result at Europe’s top table, Inter head into this two-legged tie as favorites to reach the Round of 16.

Meanwhile, Inter and Milan have embarked on a historic project that will forever change the fan experience at San Siro.

“A football team is not just a sports organization,” Beppe Marotta said. “It is a social phenomenon, a powerful element of community, a vessel of values.

“It is a sporting phenomenon, but also an economic one.

“In our case, we are talking about a joint-stock company that this year exceeded €500 million in revenue.

“That’s thanks also to an outstanding performance in European competitions.

“We are an expression of Made in Italy that finds space and recognition worldwide.

“It is no coincidence that Inter participated in the Club World Cup in the United States this year and is competing in the Champions League.

“And it is a value we export while always protecting our roots.”

“Not everyone knows, Inter was founded in 1908 after a split from Milan,” Marotta added. “Some directors disagreed with the choice to register only Italian players and decided to create a new club, Internazionale, to also give space to foreign players.

“Behind a football team, there is a complex universe.

“Millions of fans around the world are drawn not only to what is a true sporting passion but also to a strong sense of belonging.

“The clearest example is the 80,000 spectators who fill San Siro every time we play at home.

“Growth is not only sporting: every match generates economic benefits for the city, from hospitality and catering to the promotion of cultural and historical aspects.

“A team becomes an international business card.

“Milan is an extraordinary city that has grown a lot in recent years.

“Worldwide, it is often identified thanks to the presence of two clubs like Inter and Milan.”

“A new stadium is a necessity we felt we needed,” Marotta stated. “And we thank Mayor Sala for his determination in achieving this goal despite the many challenges.

“San Siro is an iconic stadium. It represents something historic and extraordinary.

“I watched my first game at San Siro when I was 8 years old, and it is impossible to forget those emotions.

“When I think that San Siro will no longer exist, I feel a sense of sadness, but innovation requires meeting certain standards.

“For fans, having a home is very important. Today, going to the stadium is not just about watching a match but also experiencing a show before and after.

“Unfortunately, Italy lacks a culture of accepting defeat: if you lose, you have to go home quickly, also because fan clashes can occur.

“In this respect, we need to improve. In the past 20 years, Europe has built 148 stadiums, only four in Italy.

“We are certainly lagging behind.

“In this case, thanks to the determination of the owners of Milan and Inter, we have been able to start this process.

“The new stadium was necessary, despite the utmost respect for San Siro.”

Finally, Marotta addressed the importance of responsibility in top-level sport.

“Sport carries a great responsibility,” Marotta was adamant. It must set a positive example.

“We have faced difficult moments; in recent years, we have gone through delicate phases.

“However, football is a phenomenon that involves people from every background, culture, and social class, and naturally, in such a broad context, challenges can arise,” Marotta added.

“We are proud to represent Milan and to be part of its history. And we will do everything to uphold these values.

“We are still in the Champions League, and tomorrow we will go to Norway to represent the city; we hope to achieve a positive result.

“Our relationship with the other Milanese club is excellent, and even regarding the new stadium, the understanding is solid.

“I believe all this represents a beautiful business card for Milan.”
