Real Madrid have had a historic summer transfer window so far, as they have already signed six new players, including the winger Yan Diomande, who has now become the most expensive signing in the Merengue club’s history.

Only a few days ago, it looked like they had also found a player who would solve a lot of their problems in the midfield, i.e., the Manchester City star Rodri Hernandez. However, Los Blancos have faced a significant setback in this operation, as the player has now told them that he prioritizes a move to their bitter rivals, FC Barcelona, instead.

These developments are going to bring a significant change of plans at Real Madrid. According to Diario AS, Bernardo Silva, whom the Merengues signed this summer after his contract with Manchester City expired, has now gained significantly greater importance in Mourinho’s plans, as the Portuguese manager is now planning to play him deeper in midfield to give him more playmaking responsibilities.

Mourinho believes this setup can work if the Portuguese star is paired with Aurelien Tchouameni in the midfield, as the Frenchman will provide defensive cover, while Silva will organize the game with his passing and playmaking.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid are also not going to turn their backs on the market. With three weeks left till the summer transfer window closes, Los Blancos can still try to land another midfielder, and have been linked with the likes of Adam Wharton, Kees Smit, and Ayoub Bouaddi this summer.

However, their initial plan this preseason involved using Bernardo Silva in this role, until the opportunity to sign Rodri emerged. However, as this opportunity has now faded away, Real Madrid are now expected to revert to their original plans, giving the Portuguese midfielder significantly more importance in Jose Mourinho’s plans for the next season.
