Bernardo suffers ACL injury on Amazonas loan and returns to Santos | OneFootball

Attacking midfielder Bernardo Paias suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury while on loan at Amazonas and has been undergoing treatment at Santos for months. Loaned in February to the Manaus club, he played twice in the Amazonense and scored once in three Copa Norte outings, but has not featured since April. He is expected to return to action only in 2027.

According to Diario Do Peixe, he opted to rehabilitate at CT Rei Pelé and now awaits his registration to revert to Santos on the BID, with his Amazonas deal having run to the end of Série C’s calendar. People close to him said the issue has been the final phase of workloads, which they believe were rushed.

Before the loan, Santos extended his contract, which was due to expire in November this year, to December next year. The club acted to avoid losing him for free, then sent him out as there was no space in the first team.

A standout with the under-17s in 2022, he suffered a grade-two thigh injury late in 2023. Registered for the 2024 Copinha, he missed the tournament, then returned in February to play at the Equality Cup in Qatar against Shanghai Shenhua and Zenit. He later featured in the under-20 Paulista and Brasileiro, scoring and assisting.

He trained with Fábio Carille’s seniors and was listed for Série B, but setbacks forced further rehab. Back in August he sought minutes with the under-20s against Goiás and Red Bull Bragantino, then relapsed, recovered through September to November, and was named for this January’s Copinha, where he came off the bench against Ferroviária as Santos went out.

After the 2025 Copinha he returned to physio work, played two Brasileiro under-20 matches in March against Botafogo and Atlético-MG, then felt discomfort again after a heavier first-team training load. It amounts to roughly one year and six months battling injuries before he rejoined competitions in June. Born in Ribeirão Preto in 2005, he later obtained an EU passport and received an enquiry from Ajax.
