Bernd Leno can ‘imagine’ move to Bayern

Bayern Munich could be interested in moving for Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

Manuel Neuer remains the first-choice goalkeeper at the club, but the German giants must start planning for life without their veteran captain at some point.

While the 40-year-old remains capable of performing at the highest level, Bayern need to start reshaping their goalkeeping department with the future in mind.

Bayern Munich eye move for Bernd Leno?

Leno began his senior career at Stuttgart before joining Bayer Leverkusen in 2012, where he went on to make 304 appearances across all competitions.

The German goalkeeper later made 125 appearances for Arsenal before joining Fulham in the summer of 2022.

Since moving to Craven Cottage, Leno has made 161 appearances for the Cottagers, and the 34-year-old is now emerging as an option for Bayern.

Neuer is expected to retire in the summer of 2027, with Jonas Urbig likely to take over as Bayern’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Christian Falk has exclusively told CFBayern Insider that Bayern want to bring in a reliable back-up option, with Leno among the names under consideration.

The German champions have also looked at Finn Dahmen and Marvin Schwäbe as alternative options.

Bernd Leno would be a fantastic signing

Leno is under contract with Fulham until 2027, although the Premier League club have an option to extend his deal by another year.

Goalkeepers tend to enjoy lengthy careers, and at 34, Leno still has several years left at the highest level.

Vincent Kompany’s rotation policy could allow Leno to get regular game time, while his experience would provide Bayern with a dependable option should Urbig suffer an injury.

The vastly experienced goalkeeper is reportedly open to returning to Germany, which would also allow him to live closer to his native Swabia.

Given his experience and familiarity with the Bundesliga, Leno could represent an attractive option for Bayern as they prepare for the next chapter of their goalkeeping department.
