Noel Whelan claims that Odsonne Edouard has given Neil Lennon a real headache after he scored the winner for Celtic against Sarajevo.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aberdeen striker claims that a close-range finish can be the “best goal in the world” when you’re a forward struggling for form.

The 22-year-old scored the only goal of Thursday’s game by poking the ball home after Ryan Christie’s shot was palmed right into the Frenchman’s path by the Sarajevo goalkeeper.

The poacher’s effort was Edouard’s sixth goal of the season but his first in four games for the Hoops.

Whelan insists that Thursday’s strike will be a huge boost to Edouard’s confidence and that it will have given Neil Lennon a headache regarding his team selection moving forward.

Whelan told Football Insider: “They’re the best goals in the world, the best in the world, I’m telling you.

“When you’re going through a little bit of a drought, a little bit of a tough patch and you’re coming back into the side, they’re the best goals in the world to score.

“That will do him the world of good, it doesn’t matter how you score your goals, at the end of the season you just see a tally, doesn’t matter if it’s a tap in or a 25-yard strike.

“He’s a goal scorer, he gets himself in the right place at the right time, it’s intelligence, and that’s what happens with these sort of players, you can’t keep a good man down.

“Now he’s pushing again, now he’s giving Neil Lennon a headache and something to think about. That’s what you want, you want goalscorers scoring goals and making it difficult to choose.”
