Eddie Howe, Newcastle United manager, speaking to Amazon Prime:

On the second leg performance: "I thought at 2-0 we probably came off the pedal. We didn't intend to do that but it was sort of the natural reaction.

"In the second half the game became end-to-end which, for us, was a real shame. For one, we extended too much energy and it meant we didn't put pressure on their goal, so we're disappointed with that 45 minutes."

On the pre-match Wor Flags display: "Amazing. Big thank you to everyone that thought of that idea. It's much appreciated the love that the supporters give me and the team. It means everything."

Sandro Tonali, Newcastle United's first goalscorer, speaking to Amazon Prime:

On the match: "It was a very great game for the first 10 minutes. I'm not very happy with the second half because we play just with the result because we scored nine goals but we had to do more because these fans deserve 100 per cent for 90 minutes every game.

"For me, the second half was very good but we can do 100 per cent more and we need to push every minute of the game."

Dwight Gayle, former Newcastle United striker, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live:

On his former club: "This is an amazing time for Newcastle. They looked for Eddie Howe and for someone who they could keep for 10 years and take the club forward.

"That is what he has done. The fans feel like one and he has taken them to winning trophies. And now he has taken them to the knockouts of the Champions League - and the boys will want Barcelona next."
