The club said in a statement that it staged its first evacuation drill at Estadio La Cartuja on Sunday 1 February under its Plan de Autoprotección for major events.

Held before Real Betis faced Valencia, the two-hour exercise coincided with Storm Leonardo, which brought red alerts in parts of Andalusia and yellow warnings in Seville.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side host Diego Pablo Simeone’s Atlético Madrid in the Copa del Rey quarter-final at 21:00 on Thursday 5 February at La Cartuja. The tie is confirmed to go ahead, with the weather being monitored.

The drill simulated a partial emergency in Fase Azul, Nivel 3, signalling potentially serious harm to people or property. Scenarios included a drone with a suspicious package, a crowd surge and a small fire.

The Unidad de Control Organizativo, in an office overlooking the pitch, coordinated the response with the Unidad de Control Interno.

The scenario began with a drone carrying an explosive device, intercepted by the National Police anti-drone system and brought down on the pitch. A general alarm, a canteen fire in Gol Sur’s lower tier and a surge then prompted a sectorised evacuation and simulated medical care.

The exercise tested activation of the Plan de Autoprotección, procedures, communications including emergency PA, and safe egress. Medical triage and evacuations were also assessed with Local and National Police, Firefighters, Civil Protection, SAMU, psychology and social work colleges, and private security involved. More than 250 people took part.
