Fiorentina welcomed two arrivals from England today, with Everton striker Beto and Leeds United’s Italy international Wilfried Gnonto in Florence to undergo medical tests.
According to Football Italia, the Viola had waited for Joshua Zirkzee but, faced with difficulties in reaching agreement with Manchester United and, above all, the player, they switched focus to Beto.
The former Udinese forward arrived this afternoon at Viola Park outside Florence, ready to complete an €18m move from Everton.
Gnonto was seen at the same facility this evening, greeting fans and media. With the deadline tomorrow and the centre owned by the club, he was able to begin tests late tonight to start the process.
His deal is believed to be a €1m loan with an option to buy for €15m at season’s end. “I can’t wait,” Gnonto said. “I salute all the Fiorentina fans and I can’t wait to see you all.”
It marks a return to Italian football for Gnonto, who never made a Serie A debut despite coming through Inter’s academy. The 22-year-old moved to FC Zurich in 2020, then joined Leeds United in 2022, and was eager for his chance in Serie A.
