Beto came off the bench to rescue a point for Everton away to Brighton thanks to a 97th-minute strike.

The Seagulls were the better of the two sides in the first half and came the closest after Kaoru Mitoma and Danny Welbeck linked up with the winger's effort poking his shot just wide.

Everton eventually grew into the game in the second half after failing to have any chance of note in the first 45 minutes.

However, the deadlock was eventually broken by Pascal Gross for the German's first goal since returning to the club. It was Yasin Ayari's ball from the right that was dummied by Mitoma allowing the midfield to find the corner of the net.

Mitoma almost got on the scoresheet himself soon after when he found soon after following a Gross free-kick. However, there was an offside call due to an interference by a player off the ball that allowed Lewis Dunk to win the initial header.

Brighton were arguably the better of the two sides for the majority of the match but it was Everton who snatched a point late on.

With the game seconds past the six additional minutes Jake O'Brien had an effort that Bart Verbruggen stopped only for Beto to pounce and make it 1-1.

That result means Everton now sit eight in the league with Brighton in 13th following Bournemouth's win away to Wolves.
