Bierhoff has emerged as a candidate for the vacant sporting director position at Bundesliga club Hamburger SV.
Hamburger Morgenpost reports that the 57-year-old would like to take on the job, with the Hanseatic side keen to fill the void left by Stefan Kuntz.
Bierhoff served as managing director of the German national team until the end of 2022 and has been without a club since.
He also has history with Hamburg, having played for the club between 1988 and 1990.
Alongside the Karlsruhe native, Ralf Rangnick, Jonas Boldt, Fabian Wohlgemuth and Sebastian Kehl are among the candidates.
Kuntz left the position suddenly after allegations of serious misconduct were made against him.
