‘Big Hold Up’ In Club’s Swoop For Stoke City Star Emerges | OneFootball

Stoke City attacker Jun-Ho Bae is having his move to French side Lyon held up by the Ligue 1 club’s need to bring in cash to push the deal over the line.

The Potters are moving rapidly towards the new Championship season, but there continues to be doubt over whether Bae will be involved.

The South Korea international is a key man for Mark Robins’ side and was named on the bench for the Potters’ EFL Cup first round tie against Oldham Athletic on Saturday.

Bae is moving into the final year of his Stoke contract and Lyon have been chasing him, seeing the Korean as a bargain signing this summer.

No move to Lyon has happened yet though and Bae remains on the books in the Potteries.

Now, according to Korean journalist Joel Kim, the ‘big hold up’ over the deal is the fact that Lyon need to improve their cash flow.

Les Gones need to bring in money through player sales in order to be able to proceed with the deal to sign Bae from Stoke.

Stoke could therefore find themselves waiting on a deal to sell Bae through to close to the end of the transfer window.

Bae arrived at Stoke from the Korean side Daejeon Hana Citizen in 2023.

The South Korean attacker made 42 Championship appearances last season, but only managed to make five goal contributions in the process.

Bae is not the only attacker linked with a move away from Stoke this summer, as winger Sorba Thomas has attracted interest from West Ham United.

A move to Lyon would hand Bae the chance to play in a top league for the first time in his career since his arrival in Europe.
