The stage is set for a real soccer highlight: On Wednesday evening, the women of FC Bayern Munich will welcome the reigning Champions League winners Arsenal WFC to the Allianz Arena.
The match kicks off at 6.45 p.m. and will be broadcast live on Disney+. It is the top match of the third matchday of the group stage – and an opportunity for the Munich women to make another statement.
After the emotional last-minute win against Juventus (2:1) and seven successive victories in the Bundesliga, José Barcala’s team will go into the clash with great confidence. The 4:0 win against Union Berlin was further proof of the double winners‘ dominance. Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir, Giulia Gwinn and Co. now want to show in the Allianz Arena that they are among the best teams on the continent.
In four previous encounters with Arsenal, the home team has always prevailed – two wins for Bayern, two for the Londoners. Last season, Munich won 5-2 at home, but lost the return leg in England 3-2.
There is also good news in terms of personnel: Lea Schüller returns to the squad after muscular problems. Vanessa Gilles, Ena Mahmutovic and Carolin Simon are also ready for action again. However, Sarah Zadrazil and Lena Oberdorf (both cruciate ligament ruptures) and Tuva Hansen (ankle) are still missing.
Coach José Barcala emphasized before the game: „Arsenal have an extremely good transition game. We have to be compact and organized and take our chances.“
Goalkeeper Mala Grohs has fond memories of the last home game against the English side: „It was an intense game with lots of goals. We have to be prepared for anything.“

The opponents arrive with a mixed record: Arsenal are in fourth place in the English league and recently drew 1-1 in the derby against Chelsea. In the Champions League, the team first lost to Lyon (1-2), but then won 2-0 at Benfica.
For the Bayern women, the clash is more than just a group game – it is a statement evening at the Allianz Arena. The impressive home record speaks for itself: the Munich side are still unbeaten in 13 games in the group and league phase (10 wins, 3 draws).
Giulia Gwinn sums up the mood ahead of the game: „They certainly don’t like coming to the Allianz Arena and think it will be easy against Bayern.“
