Enzo Maresca looks unhappy in a press conference after a win.

After Maresca said he had had his “worst 48 hours” at Chelsea and had lacked “support,” we thought the articles being published about potential replacements for him as manager were very premature. But as the days have gone by and he’s basically doubled down on them, we’re coming round to the idea that he may not be manager next season.

Carragher saw things the same way on Monday Night Football:

“I am a big fan of Maresca but it looks like there’s a bit of a power play starting, and that never bodes well, especially for a manager,” Carragher said.

“I don’t think Maresca’s manager at Chelsea next season. When you come out and speak about your ownership like that and you speak in public, that’s a big problem.”

We saw how quickly Mauricio Pochettino was seen off at the end of his solitary season despite his issues being kept totally behind closed doors. Maresca will have to do so well this season to avoid the same fate, we suspect.

In other news…

Chelsea are doing a festive series of features on their websites where they ask players for their best Christmas memories, and while Benoit Badiashile isn’t much of a raconteur, he did have some sweet things to say.

Maresca did his best Pep Guardiola impression after Chelsea’s win over Cardiff in midweek, claiming he was “very happy” while looking anything but. It was as unsettling as you could imagine…
