John Textor has been linked with a potential takeover of Sheffield Wednesday in recent months
John Textor has joined forces with football financier Keith Harris as he eyes a takeover of Sheffield Wednesday.
According to the Guardian, the US businessman has teamed up with Harris outside of the financier’s Sportsbank investment vehicle.
The Owls’ current owner Dejphon Chansiri is under pressure from supporters to sell his stake in the club, with fans staging a protest at their opening league game away to Leicester City on Sunday.
It has been a difficult summer for Sheffield Wednesday, who have seen a number of players depart the club as free agents after they terminated their contracts due to repeated late payment of wages.
John Textor has reportedly teamed with Harris as he eyes a potential takeover of Sheffield Wednesday.
Harris has previously been heavily involved with takeovers at West Ham, Manchester City and Aston Villa.
It’s understood that Harris put together a consortium of investors that looked to take over Everton, which ultimately proved unsuccessful.
Textor also bid to buy the Merseyside outfit, but was unable to strike a deal for the Toffees, and it’s believed that the pair got to know each other through this process despite not working together.
It’s been reported that the pair are now working on sourcing funding that can help Textor in his bid to buy Chansiri’s stake in Sheffield Wednesday.
However, Harris’ investment vehicle Sportsbank is reportedly not involved in the deal.
It was reported by Alan Nixon over the weekend that multiple Sheffield Wednesday players were informed about a potential takeover of the club in a bid to ease their concerns over the future of the team.
It’s been claimed that Chansiri has set an asking price of £100 million for the Yorkshire outfit.
Sheffield Wednesday lost their opening game of the campaign 2-1 to Leicester at the King Power Stadium.
It’s also likely that the Owls will be hit with a significant points deduction for breaching the EFL’s financial regulations.
Chansiri’s unpopularity at Sheffield Wednesday could not be any clearer after Sunday’s game with Leicester.
The sooner that he leaves the club for good the better, with any new owner coming in marking a huge step in the right direction.
There are reasons to be concerned about Textor’s plans for the club, with the American overseeing the mismanagement of French giants Lyon in recent years.
But if he can provide some stability to the Owls, and help alleviate any concerns over running out of business, then supporters will welcome him with open arms in order to get rid of Chansiri.
