‘Big surprise’: Bayern plan to hold talks with defender over fresh deal | OneFootball

Bayern Munich are planning to hold talks with Min-jae Kim over his future at the club.

Earlier this summer, there were suggestions that the South Korean defender could be offloaded if Bayern received the right offer.

Although Bayern were not actively looking to sell him, he was not considered “untouchable” unlike some of the other players in the squad.

Min-jae Kim: Bayern defender could be set for a new deal?

Kim joined the German champions in the summer of 2023 and has made 120 appearances for the club, scoring five goals.

Last season, the 29-year-old centre-back made 37 appearances across all competitions, but he was behind Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah in the pecking order.

While his situation has not completely changed, Kim is happy with his role at the club.

Christian Falk has exclusively told CFBayern Insider that Vincent Kompany is impressed with him, and he is now getting more minutes.

Falk said: “It is TRUE: Bayern Munich have planned talks in the Autumn with Min-jae Kim to discuss his future. This is a big surprise. The South Korean was on the list where Bayern Munich told the player that if he has a good offer, they’d sell him.

“But now Vincent Kompany and Min-jae Kim are working very well together and he’s getting a lot of playing time. It’s not just Jonathan Tah and Dayot Upamecano in the first row; it’s kind of a rotation between the three players. I remember, further back, we had players like Lucio, Martín Demichelis, and Daniel Van Buyten, and this was a similar situation with shared game time.

“So, at the moment, Kim is really confident, and the club is also confident now. They’re getting the sign that they can have talks in the Autumn over his future, and this will be very interesting. It’s a big change, but the credit goes to the player for keeping quiet while he wasn’t playing but working really hard and playing very well when he got on the pitch.”

Min-jae Kim: Reliable backup option

During the summer window, we revealed that Manchester United were interested in signing the South Korean, but no offer was made for him.

With Bayern aiming to compete on multiple fronts this season, Kim can expect to feature in plenty of games, including important fixtures.

He has become a reliable backup option for Kompany, and Bayern could now consider offering him a short-term contract extension.
