David Sullivan stepped down from his roles as joint-chair and director of the Hammers following allegations about his conduct, with Daniel Křetínský increasing his share to become the largest shareholder of the club.

More changes are afoot with several key players likely to depart, including Jarrod Bowen, Crysencio Summerville and Mateus Fernandes, who have all been linked with Premier League moves.

However, the change that is set to happen in 2028 is something that supporters will deeply care about, and fans will play a key part in the decision-making.

When the Irons moved from the Boleyn Ground to the London Stadium in 2016, it brought about a change in the club's crest, with the Boleyn Castle removed, the crossed hammers becoming a prominent feature and the word London being added beneath.

The change was inevitably mixed, but on the whole it was viewed as a positive step, with a supporter consultation taking place before unveiling the fresh design.

Now, 10 years since the last change, West Ham have announced that they will launch a new fan consultation on the future direction of the club's official crest.

The East London club have revealed a full timeline of the detailed discussion with the Fan Advisory Board (FAB), and should they provide positive feedback, then a further consultation will take place with a wider group of supporters.

Those supporters will include 2026/27 season-ticket holders (for men's and women's teams), 2026/27 claret members and supporters who attended more than five matches in the 2025/26 season.

Furthermore, the Irons have confirmed that the process will run throughout the upcoming season and that any changes will be implemented at the start of the 2028/29 campaign.

Plenty is happening at the London Stadium, but the announcement of a change in club crest is something that is likely to go down well with fans.

Changing a club crest is something that needs to be an extensive process, and clearly the Hammers are taking this decision seriously with the proposed time frame and involvement of fans in the decision.

With fans involved, any potential new crest will be more likely to be seen as a positive step, as the people at the centre of the change will have the best interests of their side at heart.

It will be intriguing to see whether there will be subtle or wholesale changes and whether the club include anything from the previous design.

Some have called for the club to go back to their roots and revert to their previous badge, which incorporated the Boleyn Castle.

One fan has even suggested a very subtle change that West Ham could make.
