Bilbao Athletic swapped the ball for oars on Thursday, stepping off the training pitch for a different pre-season session with two weeks left before the Primera Federación starts.

According to El Correo, the squad visited the Raspas rowing school in Las Arenas and took to the water at the Puerto Deportivo de Getxo.

The change of scene moved focus away from the ball and the usual physical and tactical drills. New head coach Bittor Loppis also sought to strengthen group cohesion.

Bilbao Athletic begin their league campaign on 29 August in Zamora.

It will be their third consecutive season in the Primera Federación, and their fifth overall at this level.

Last season they finished 13th, six points above the relegation places. They will aim to steer clear of trouble this time.
