Former internationals turned pundits believe France can win the 2026 World Cup, citing attacking depth and Didier Deschamps’ experience. As reported by L'Équipe, early performances have reinforced that belief.

Slaven Bilic now makes France his sole pick, keeping only Argentina in play because of Lionel Messi. He praised the front four’s cohesion and the half-time switch between Michael Olise and Ousmane Dembélé in the 3-1 defeat of Senegal.

Fernando Hierro places France among the top two or three contenders, saying after three matches he has no doubts about their quality. He highlighted their physical strength and Deschamps’ value in a World Cup environment.

Martin Dahlin says France are incredibly strong and should win it, led by Ousmane Dembélé and Kylian Mbappé, whom he considers the two best players in the world. He cited depth with Bradley Barcola, Marcus Thuram and Désiré Doué, dismissed the second half of the 4-1 win over Norway, and added that only Spain, Argentina and Brazil can rival them on a good day.

Roger Milla hailed Dembélé’s return and hat-trick against Norway, tipping him for the Ballon d’Or. He said France are among the favourites if squad harmony holds, while warning that Argentina and Brazil will be dangerous.

Carlos Bianchi believes the title will go to Argentina, France or Spain, but views France as the most naive defensively of the trio. He warned their back line could be exposed if the forwards misfire, recalling Germany’s one-v-one approach three decades ago, and urged vigilance.
