Blues are looking to add further attacking quality to their already impressive squad
Birmingham City are looking to outbid Championship rivals Hull City and Swansea City in the race for experienced striker, Oli McBurnie.
That is according to a fresh report from Alan Nixon, who states that Blues are coming in with a "top cash offer" for the former Sheffield United forward, who has spent the last 12 months with Las Palmas, with the Canary Island-based side relegated from La Liga alongside Real Valladolid and Leganes after accumulating just 32 points and eight wins across the season
Since then, the aforementioned duo of Birmingham's upcoming second-tier rivals have expressed an interest in acquiring the 29-year-old's services, with it being reported at the time of Hull's initial interest that the Tigers were looking to trigger a relegation release clause in McBurnie's contract which made the Scotland international available on a free transfer, leaving wages as the key sticking point regarding his next move.
Hull's initial interest in McBurnie coincided with a change of head coach at the MKM Stadium, although it has since been reported alongside the unveiling of Sergej Jakirovic as Acun Ilicali's latest managerial appointment that the East Yorkshire club remain hopeful of securing his services amid rival interest.
Two of McBurnie's former clubs have also shown their hand in this particular transfer battle, with the BBC revealing Swansea's interest in the man who previously netted 26 goals in 62 games for the South Wales side before the Blades invested a then-club-record £20m in the striker. Nixon also recently reported United's stance on a potential reunion, although it remains to be seen whether that could be impacted as sack talk intensifies around Chris Wilder.
And, as Blues have been expected to, once again, invest heavily in the playing squad at St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park after last summer's record-breaking spend and eventual point haul of 111, Nixon states that the West Midlands side are preparing a greater financial package for the 17-time international who has a promotion from the Championship on his CV.
According to ESTIMATED figures from Capology, McBurnie's contract with the Spanish outfit sees him earn €40,000 (£34,046) per week, although it has also been claimed that the striker is keen to stay on the continent following interest from fellow La Liga side, Celta Vigo.
'Os Celestes' can also offer the experienced striker his first taste of playing in European competition, as Claudio Giráldez González's outfit qualified for the UEFA Europa League after finishing seventh.
Normally, a chance of featuring in Europe for a top-flight side would be the strongest of lures in a transfer battle. But Birmingham, under the ownership of Knighthead Capital Management, haven't been afraid to showcase their current and future ambition when it comes to attracting new signings.
Tom Wagner has continuously spoken about his aims of back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League, with many tipping Chris Davies' side to be among the promotion front-runners amid interest in Mikey Moore, Demarai Gray and Sontje Hansen, whilst England Under-21 international James Beadle is set to join the goalkeepers' union. This all comes after FLW's exclusive revelation of a £30,000-per-week contract offer for Peterborough United ace, Kwame Poku.
These are some exciting potential additions in wide areas that would give McBurnie plenty of high-quality service, and his physical and combative presence alongside strong goalscoring nous would give Davies a different attacking dimension in comparison to club-record signing Jay Stansfield and Alfie May, although a potential move could push Lyndon Dykes further down the pecking order.
