Blues' home form in the past two years has been largely impressive

Birmingham City's attempted revival under Knighthead Capital Management's ownership has been well-documented, with the club looking to become a force in the EFL and, subsequently, the Premier League.

Blues have resided in the Championship for all but one of the past 15 years since their relegation from the top-flight in May 2011, but are no longer a club satisfied with merely making the numbers up in the 24-team division after multiple previous years of stagnation.

Owner, Tom Wagner, has plugged in millions of pounds when it comes to improving the infrastructure of the club as well as the quality of football on the pitch, with the locals certainly backing the American hedge fund investor to eventually get things fully right.

After seeing the club relegated to League One at the end of a chaotic first season in the boardroom at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park, which included six permanent or temporary head coaches, the 56-year-old made the critical decision to appoint Chris Davies, even though in the present climate, there are certainly mixed opinions on the Blues boss.

Davies, of course, masterminded a first-time record-breaking promotion with 111 points, before not quite seeing his team live up to the pre-season hype which surrounded them 12 months ago despite two further high-profile transfer windows.

However, for the most part, those in this part of the Second City have largely been sent home happy from St. Andrew's in terms of results in that time, albeit Football League World's Birmingham City fan pundit, Jason Moore, believes there is still room for improvement.

Birmingham City told St. Andrew's form could still improve ahead of 2026/27

Birmingham's 10th-placed finish in this season's Championship does perfectly sum up a campaign that showcased inconsistency above all else, as well as the occasional glimmer of hope when it came to the play-off race.

However, as previously mentioned, their form at St. Andrew's has still been extremely impressive, with the club's official X account pointing out that 105 points from a possible 138 have been accrued on home turf since the beginning of the 2024/25 season.

Hull City ended a 29-game unbeaten league home record with a 3-2 win on October 18th, with the two other sides to leave B9 with maximum points this term being Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers - making a return of 44 points the fourth-best record in the second tier.

However, Moore, somewhat harshly, believes this can still be improved on ahead of next season, where a play-off charge is likely to be the minimum aim once again.

"Any club that wants to do well in any league, their home form has got to be pretty perfect," he told FLW.

"Our record in League One was fantastic - as was every record that season - but I think the club highlighting that our record was 'fantastic' last season is papering over a few cracks.

"Don't get me wrong, we still picked up a decent number of points, but some of the results we had were shocking," Moore stated. "Maybe I'm 'nitpicking', but for me, I think it should've been a bit better.

"We need to tidy up the away form, but at the bare minimum, we need to make St. Andrew's the fortress I've always known it to be. We have always been strong at home, barring the last 10 years.

"When we've been decent, St. Andrew's has always been a fortress," he claimed.

"If the objective for us is promotion to the Premier League next season, home form has got to be squeaky clean, as you can then afford to slip up away from home more than what we did this season."

Birmingham City fans will hope their team continues to rise to the occasion at St. Andrew's

As Moore alluded to, it is Birmingham's away form which needs to be addressed heading into next season, as only West Bromwich Albion, Oxford United and Sheffield Wednesday performed worse on their travels, with two of those clubs relegated to League One also.

At St. Andrew's, performances at times did leave supporters frustrated, but it cannot be denied that, for the most part, Davies' squad have risen to the occasion on home turf.

If that continues, it would certainly go a long way to aiding a promotion bid, whilst Bluenoses will also look to turn the atmosphere levels up against the likes of West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers, both of whom have been relegated.
