FLW’s Blues fan pundit has commented over whether the club should pursue a permanent deal for winger Ibrahim Osman.

Birmingham City’s play-off hopes appear to be in ruins after another disappointing defeat on the road.

Blues head into the international break off the back of a 1-0 defeat to Derby County at Pride Park last weekend, as Rhian Brewster’s 43rd minute effort ensured it was three away losses on the spin for Chris Davies' men and just one win from their last six league outings.

It leaves the West Midlands outfit 11th in the Championship standings on 53 points, 10 points off a place inside the top six with just seven games to go in the season.

It will be bitterly disappointing for Blues fans to accept that the last portion of the season is going to have little on it, particularly when they were in a good position to get in the mix before another poor run of form.

Eyes will now be shifting to plans for next season, with Birmingham hoping to build a squad good enough to go one step further and get themselves into the promotion conversation.

Blues may want to keep some players on that they brought to the club on a short-term basis this term to build around for the next campaign, which include winger Ibrahim Osman.

The 21-year-old linked up at St Andrew’s during the January transfer window on loan from Premier League outfit Brighton, and has thoroughly impressed the Blues faithful.

While the attacking contributions haven’t been to a high standard – with just one goal and one assist recorded in 11 league games, the winger has brought an added dynamism to the Blues attack, offering pace, directness and confidence when on the ball.

A full season in a Blues shirt could do the trick to seeing him become a Championship superstar and then transition into a top-flight player, so Birmingham could well look to explore a permanent deal for the Ghanaian.

With this in mind, FLW’s Birmingham City fan pundit has offered his verdict over whether Blues should look to bring Osman to the West Midlands on a full-time basis.

Emphatic Birmingham City response offered over Ibrahim Osman permanent move

Speaking to Football League World, Birmingham City fan pundit Jason Moore has urged Blues to do all they can to secure Ibrahim Osman on a permanent deal, insisting he would “snap your hand off” to see him at St Andrew’s ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Jason has been impressed with Osman’s contributions despite the winger's attacking numbers not being too high, believing he has the potential to be a top-half Premier League player.

Jason told FLW: “If we could afford that deal for Ibrahim Osman, the answer is just yes.

“I love him. He, for me, is what a winger is about. Direct, takes on a man, goes both ways and just makes football a little bit exciting to watch. I just love him.

“He’s very raw, he’s 21 and there’s a reason why he’s on loan in the Championship, but I think he’s absolute quality, and he’s going to grow into a top-half Premier League player. The way he plays football, there’s just so much quality there, and I just love watching him play.

“I think football is about players getting you off your seat and going, ‘are they going to make something happen?’ and that, for me, is what he’s about.

“If there’s a deal to explore on a full-time basis, I'd snap your hand off for it, and I’d take him in a heartbeat because I really rate him highly, so yeah, 100% I’d take him.”

Another loan deal for Ibrahim Osman may be a more realistic scenario for Birmingham City

If Birmingham City’s quest for the play-offs falls short, then Tom Wagner and co will be looking to put out another statement of intent by attacking this coming summer transfer window.

Millions of pounds are expected to be splashed out again as Blues try to achieve their goal of returning to the Premier League, and bringing back someone of the potential of Ibrahim Osman could be the route to take in order to keep the forward line well-equipped for the trials and tribulations that next season is bound to bring.

While Blues fans haven’t seen the absolute best of Osman in his loan spell, there have been glimpses which have got supporters out of their seats, creating excitement in the stands when he gets on the ball.

But pursuing a permanent move could be a bit of a stretch. At 21, Brighton will still view him as a serious talent on their books, and unless a ridiculous offer is made that wouldn’t benefit Birmingham in the slightest, then the Seagulls are unlikely to entertain letting him go permanently.

Another loan move could provide a more realistic chance of seeing the winger back in a Blues shirt though, with Brighton likely to want him get further minutes away and prove he has what it takes in the Championship before making such a giant leap into Premier League life.

Osman most likely just needs a full season under his belt to fully showcase what he has to offer, while an injection of confidence from regular gametime could help him play a big part in Blues establishing themselves back among England’s elite sides.

It’s definitely a deal to watch out for when the summer transfer window reopens, with Blues needing to retain that spark on the flanks if they are to be successful next term.
