Mohammed Fuseini is set to move to Blues ahead of their Championship rivals

Birmingham City are reportedly set to beat Derby County to the signature of Union Saint-Gilloise forward, Mohammed Fuseini, on an initial loan basis.

That is according to Flashscore, and Birmingham will also have an option-to-buy inserted in negotiations with the Belgian Pro League side as they look to strengthen Chris Davies' squad ahead of Tuesday's 11PM transfer deadline.

It had been viewed as a somewhat frustrating summer for the West Midlands outfit and their supporters, as after only a handful of summer signings had been made in the lead-up to the Championship season, Davies' side had started with successive draws against Sheffield United and Bristol City, before being dumped out of the EFL Cup in rather humiliating fashion by Brentford.

However, the mood in B9 has now returned to one of positivity after a first league win of the campaign was recorded against fellow play-off hopefuls, Wrexham, in North Wales on Friday night courtesy of a brace from centre-back, Phil Neumann.

Throughout the summer transfer window, Birmingham have undergone a reshuffle in terms of their attacking department, whilst supporters have been urging the club to add further depth in such positions after the departures of Ibrahim Osman and Kyogo Furuhashi, whilst Marvin Ducksch also continues to attract interest.

However, with less than 48 hours of the window to go, Davies may be about to address one of those issues and hand a blow to the Rams in the meantime.

So far this season, pre-season injury issues and a lack of depth have meant that Jay Stansfield has featured on the left flank for Birmingham more than any other player instead of his centre-forward role, which has split opinions.

Throughout the summer, a handful of versatile targets such as Joe Gelhardt and Anis Mehmeti have been linked with Blues, but after the former rejoined Hull City, it was reported on Sunday that the Ipswich man is open to fighting for a place in their Premier League squad.

And whilst Davies has spoken at length about a return for Osman from Brighton, the Midlands outfit are set to complete the initial loan signing of Fuseini ahead of the transfer deadline, whilst beating their former boss, John Eustace, and Derby to his signature, as well as Troyes and FC Lorient.

The 24-year-old is also set to undergo his medical at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park imminently in a bid to complete the transfer.

Derby have also been linked with a glut of attacking options to further boost Eustace's squad due to an injury crisis and a poor start to the campaign, but it has also been revealed as to why Fuseini has opted to agree a move to B9 rather than DE24.

Flashscore's report states Birmingham's chances of promotion were a key factor in the agreement for the player who has scored 15 goals in 76 appearances for USG since arriving from SK Sturm Graz in 2024.

The option-to-buy agreement in the deal would also see the striker join on a three-year contract next summer, if it is exercised.

Although it remains to be seen if Birmingham can add even further depth in creative areas, Fuseini, who missed a fair portion of last season due to various injuries, would be adding further depth to Davies' centre-forward position.

As previously mentioned, Stansfield has played in an array of positions rather than settling on one, whilst Blues also have August Priske, who has started as the main focal point of the side's attack this season following his January move and a positive pre-season, and summer recruit, Luis Vazquez, to call upon.

Fuseini has already netted in this season's Champions League qualifiers, and if the two-time Ghanaian international is able to match, or better, his 11-goal tally from two seasons ago, the Championship side will hope their Midlands rivals are left to feel a sense of transfer regret having been linked with his services earlier in the window.
