Birmingham City are set to sign Kanya Fujimoto and Kyogo Furuhashi in an exciting double transfer swoop.
Birmingham City are set to sign Gil Vicente midfielder Kanya Fujimoto, alongside fellow Japanese national Kyogo Furuhashi in a double transfer swoop.
Blues have been linked with a move for the midfielder for well over a month now, with snags in the road over a potential deal amid concerns about his short and long-term fitness.
However, a breakthrough seems to have been found, as according to the latest reports by Neil Moxley of GiveMeSport, Fujimoto is set to join the second city club after his contract at the Portuguese side expired at the end of June.
He will also be joined at St. Andrew's by fellow Japanese national Furuhashi, who made a £10m move to Stade Rennais in January, but has struggled for minutes in France, and is now return set to the UK.
This double-transfer deal is set to be yet another statement of intent by the ambitious ownership group fronted by Tom Wagner, as Brum will surely be gunning for back-to-back promotions.
Fujimoto has spent the last five years of his career in Portugal, after coming through the ranks at Tokyo Verdy. During his time in Europe, he has racked up well over 100 games for Gil Vicente.
However, following a season which saw him score five goals and five assists in 30 appearances, he is reportedly set to leave the club he's called home for the past five years, in favour of a move to England.
There had been reports that Birmingham were interested in signing the 25-year-old throughout the summer, but it was also reported that fitness concerns were stopping a deal from progressing.
However, those hurdles have now been overcome according to GiveMeSport, as Fujimoto is now set to sign for the Midlands club alongside former Celtic striker Furuhashi, in a double transfer swoop that should be completed in the next 24 hours.
The Blues are looking to return to the Premier League for the first time in over a decade, and their recent transfer business has certainly put them in a great position to make that dream a reality.
So far this summer, Birmingham have already added James Beadle, Tommy Doyle, Demarai Gray, and Bright Osayi-Samuel to their ranks, and are now set to complete their fifth and sixth additions of the window in Fujimoto and Furuhashi.
Last season, Knighthead spent big to ensure they weren't stuck in League One for more than one season after a disappointing relegation. Now they're back in the Championship, they look like they once again mean business with their additions to the squad.
If Blues do complete the double move for the Japanese duo, this will go down as a real statement of intent, bringing in another two quality players from overseas, who could have an enormous impact for Chris Davies' side next season.
