Blues, who many tipped to win the League One title at a canter this season, currently find themselves in a battle for automatic promotion, with Wycombe Wanderers and Wrexham having shown that they are capable of keeping up with the pace set by Chris Davies' side.

Following Birmingham's summer spending spree, six members of their squad are included in the 15 most expensive signings ever made by a club in the third tier, with Willum Thor Willumsson, Christoph Klarer and Jay Stansfield occupying the top three spots on that list, as per Transfermarkt.com.

Therefore, it would not come as a huge surprise if the club's owners allowed Davies to strengthen his squad further during the current transfer window, as they will certainly not want to risk failing in their attempt to ensure an immediate return to the Championship this season.

With important games against Wrexham and Huddersfield Town at the end of the month, Birmingham could benefit from making any additions in the next week or so. With that in mind, let's take a look at a couple of players who could bolster Blues' squad during the second half of the season.

Nathan Redmond

One player who has been linked with a move to St Andrew's is Burnley winger Nathan Redmond, with journalist Alan Nixon having reported last month that a loan deal could potentially be agreed.

The 30-year-old featured on the bench in the Premier League, played in the Europa League, and reached the play-offs in the Championship during his previous spell at Birmingham, where he started his career.

He signed for Norwich City in a deal that was reportedly worth up to £3.2 million in the summer of 2013, before later playing for Southampton, Besiktas and now Burnley.

It remains to be seen whether Birmingham will complete a deal for their former winger, who is just returning from injury, although it would be a welcome boost following the with injuries of their own.

Corey Blackett-Taylor

With it seeming likely that Birmingham will want to strengthen in wide areas this month, another player they could consider is Derby County winger Corey Blackett-Taylor.

The 27-year-old has had limited opportunities in the Championship during the first half of the season, and there is a chance that Blues could complete a deal to sign him this month if they were to register an interest.

Blackett-Taylor signed for the Rams from Charlton Athletic in January 2024, after he had scored eight goals and provided six assists in League One for the Addicks during the first half of the 2023/24 campaign, and he went on to help Paul Warne's side win automatic promotion to the second tier.

He is a very direct winger who loves to find himself one-against-one with his full-back, and has real pace that caused problems for defenders in League One regularly during his time at The Valley, where he often linked up with current Blues striker Alfie May.

Blackett-Taylor did come through the ranks at Aston Villa, although he only made two senior appearances for the club, and his Midlands roots mean that a January move to Birmingham, either on loan or permanently, could make sense if he is made available by Derby.
