FLW's Birmingham City fan pundit has hit out at the club for their ticket pricing for the home game against Wolves in September.

Birmingham City will be hoping to mount a sustained promotion challenge in the Championship this season.

It was a solid first year back in the Championship for Birmingham last season as they finished 10th in the table, but inconsistency prevented them from achieving owner Tom Wagner's target of back-to-back promotions.

Despite speculation over his future towards the end of last season, Birmingham have opted to stick with manager Chris Davies, and they have made four new signings so far this summer, with James Beadle, Dael Fry, Kristoffer Lund and Luis Vazquez arriving at St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park, while Jhon Solis' loan deal has been made permanent.

While there may not be quite the same level of expectation among the Blues faithful as this time last summer, there will still be plenty of excitement ahead of the new season, which will see the club reignite their rivalry with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The two clubs have not met since April 2018, when Wolves secured a 2-0 victory at Molineux, but Birmingham will have a chance to put that right when they host the Old Gold on Sunday 6th September.

There has already been some discontent among the Blues fanbase about the fixture being moved to a 12pm kick-off for coverage on Sky Sports, but the club's ticket pricing has caused further outrage, with the cheapest non-family area ticket costing £37.50 and the most expensive regular ticket priced at £42.50.

The latest controversy comes just weeks after Birmingham came in for criticism for charging supporters £35 for a general sale adult ticket to watch last month's pre-season friendly against Spanish giants Barcelona, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

When asked for his thoughts on the situation, FLW's Birmingham City fan pundit Jason Moore hit out at what he described as "disgraceful" ticket prices for the Wolves game, accusing the club of pricing supporters out of attending.

"Whoever has made the decision to price the game at that has totally missed the point," Jason told FLW.

"This isn't just a Blues issue, it's a problem across football.

"It's a horrendous decision.

"The game is on TV, so that's going to drive people away anyway, then you're just pricing people out straight away.

"Football is a working class game, and this whole spiel we had about tickets being kept fair is a load of rubbish.

"They overcharged us for the Barcelona friendly game, which was a joke, and they're overcharging your everyday fan even more now for a game that's on TV.

"It's unbelievably out of touch, and it's really, really poor from the club.

"What worries me as well is, is this a sign of things to come or are they just pricing it at that because it's a Midlands rivalry?

"If that's the case, I think that's just as bad as it being the normal price because they're quite clearly rinsing fans.

"I think it's disgusting, I really do.

"It's obviously a major problem within the English game.

"£37.50 or £42.50 for a Championship game that's on TV is outrageous, it's absolutely disgusting.

"I'm glad I'm a season ticket holder because I wouldn't be paying that price, and I don't blame the fans who don't pay that price because it's disgusting."

Knighthead have rightly received plenty of praise for the work they have done at Birmingham over the past three years, but with two instances of extortionate ticket pricing occurring in recent weeks, they must be careful not to damage their relationship with supporters.

Blues supporters were already understandably unhappy about the Wolves clash being moved to the somewhat inconvenient kick-off time of 12pm on a Sunday, so the inflated ticket prices were never going to be well-received, and it is fair to say that the pricing structure is unacceptable for a Championship game.
