Blues could still part ways with Chris Davies this off-season despite a strong end to the campaign

Despite a promising end to the Championship season in terms of results and performance levels, change could still be the order of Birmingham City's upcoming off-season under Knighthead's ownership.

Throughout Tom Wagner's tenure as chairman, which will hit the three-year mark in July, Blues haven't been afraid to dream big and flex their financial muscles as they harbour ambitions of a return to the Premier League sooner rather than later.

After a chaotic first campaign at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park which resulted in relegation to League One, Wagner has put his faith in Chris Davies to eventually lead the club back to a position which it hasn't found itself in since May 2011.

It has been well-documented that within his first season in charge of the West Midlands outfit, as well as full-time management as a whole, that the 41-year-old was heavily backed in the transfer market and in terms of support from the hierarchy as Birmingham amassed an EFL record of 111 points in the third tier, with more of the same momentum expected in the Championship as a result.

Despite a continuation of hefty investment and changes to the playing squad, Blues haven't quite lived up to expectations, even though a 2-0 win over Bristol City in B9 last time out ensured that the club will finish in the Championship's top half for the first time in a decade.

Regardless, it still remains to be seen if Davies is to start a third season in charge, with Football League World exclusively revealing that if Knighthead were to opt for a change, they have their sights set on a potentially ambitious move for former Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur boss, Thomas Frank.

And, following on from the aforementioned story, some further steps have reportedly been taken by the club in recent days.

Birmingham City take next steps in order to potentially lure Thomas Frank to St. Andrew's

Frank has been out of work for two months now, having been dismissed by Tottenham following a winless run of eight matches in the Premier League between December 2025 and February 2026.

Spurs had previously paid a hefty £6.7m fee to prize the Dane away from the Gtech Community Stadium, four years after Frank had guided the Bees to glory in the Championship play-off final over Swansea City.

Therefore, it has unsurprisingly been viewed as a potentially major coup if Blues were to attract the 52-year-old to St. Andrew's, with Football Insider now claiming that contact has been made between those in power in the Second City and Frank in recent days.

It has been reported that a key reason behind the potential appointment is that Birmingham chiefs are looking to follow the successful data-driven model adopted throughout Frank's time in West London, which led to promotion and subsequently respectable finishes in the Premier League standings.

Birmingham City has reported competition in the race to attract Thomas Frank as manager

Given Frank's stature in football despite a disappointing spell in North London, it also comes as very little surprise to learn that Birmingham are not the only club interested in securing his services.

Indeed, it was recently reported by Football Fan Cast that Scottish Premiership giants, Celtic, have considered the experienced boss as a potential managerial target of their own.

It has been a disappointing campaign for the Hoops, with Martin O'Neill currently in the midst of his second spell as interim boss, with those coming either side of Brendan Rodgers' and Wilfried Nancy's respective exits at Parkhead.

As previously mentioned, it also remains to be seen if Blues are to pull the plug on the Davies experiment, with Wagner previously showcasing his support to the former Tottenham assistant amid sack calls, but this is a potential appointment that has got many in Birmingham excited if they were able to pull a deal off.
