Blues have enjoyed an excellent start to life in League One, and are in contention for a return back to the Championship
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more...
Birmingham City have enjoyed an excellent start to the season, and although they have lost their place at the top of the League One table, they have proven to be an extremely strong force so far.
Blues have dropped off the pace ever so slightly in recent weeks, and they have won just one of their last four league games. However, with clashes against Stockport County and Barnsley, two teams that are fighting for a play-off place, coming up, there is the opportunity for the West Midlands club to make huge statements to the rest of the third tier.
Chris Davies was allowed to bring in a number of new stars in the summer transfer window, and with it opening once again in January, it would not be a surprise to see more faces make their way through the doors of St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park.
However, Birmingham fans will be well aware that those in divisions above may be keeping a key eye on some of their key players, and they may be arranging moves of their own.
December will be crucial for home Blues plan for the January window, and if they do have difficulties maintaining their high standards that they have set for themselves, then they may have a focus on signing more talent.
However, for Football League World's Birmingham Fan Pundit, Mike Gibbs, there is a worry about losing members of their starting XI.
When asked by FLW what his biggest fear is for Blues heading into January, he said: "I think the biggest fear would be losing one of our truly talented players from the starting XI, but I'd be really surprised if anyone we wanted to keep was moved on, only if we had a ridiculous offer come in.
"I think we've got everyone under contract. I think it would take a pretty ridiculous bid to be brutally honest, because even a good bid, it's not really in the interests of the owner."
Mike continued: "I think for me, if I look at the team, potentially losing one of our centre-halves, I think Paik could be one that you look at and go if we lost him, he’d be a big, big loss.
"I guess if we were to lose a couple of loan players like if Ben Davies went back, I think that would leave us short, so that would probably be my biggest fear at this point, but I think we're in good shape."
While supporters will always fear losing a player or two during a transfer window, Birmingham should not have to worry due to the strong position the club is in financially and their ambitions for the future.
It is highly likely that they will return to the Championship at the end of the season, and with a squad filled with plenty of quality already, they may compete with those in the top half of the second tier if they do win promotion.
There is a lot of expectation of Blues right now, and that pressure will build as the season progresses, but so far their players and coaching staff are responding well to that pressure, and they have put themselves into a good position as we head into the festive period.
Birmingham will keep hold of their key players in January, and it would not be a surprise to see more stars added to the ranks as they look to catch and overtake Wycombe Wanderers and Wrexham once again.
