Birmingham City have been told they 'desperately' need to source reinforcements despite being backed over the potential sale of Marvin Ducksch, who has been the subject of intense exit talk throughout the entire summer transfer window.

Blues have only added six new recruits to Chris Davies' squad whilst enduring a rather frustrating start to their second season back in the Championship with draws against Sheffield United and Bristol City.

The approach adopted by Davies and his recruitment team at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park this summer window has certainly been different to the previous four which he had overseen, with Birmingham previously splashing the cash in a bid to try and realise Knighthead Capital Management's Premier League dream as soon as possible.

In one of two high-profile recruitment drives last summer, Ducksch was one of 14 new players signed by the Second City club, joining from Werder Bremen for £1.75m.

However, it is fair to say that his spell with Blues has been extremely mixed, both on and off the pitch, and as a result of the continued noise surrounding the two-time German international in recent months, a likely sale is a decision which Football League World's Birmingham City fan pundit, Jason Moore, has backed.

Ducksch netted 11 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions last season after netting his first two in the 4-1 win over Norwich City on November 22nd.

Utilised as both a main striker and 'number 10' by Davies, though, it is fair to say that the attacker's form wasn't always consistent, and after initial transfer rumours surfaced in March, the experienced figure found himself in hot water after causing a three-way vehicle collision on Easter Monday close to the club's training ground, and was fined over £16,000 and banned from driving for 14 months.

Ducksch has since revealed his desire to return to Germany, whilst it has been claimed that Birmingham will not stand in his way over a potential exit.

And, with Sky Germany now claiming the Midlands side could accept a fee as low as €500,000 between now and September 1st, Moore told FLW: "If you leave our strikers as Priske, Stansfield and Vazquez, I think we're fine.

"We brought Ducksch in as a '10' /'nine', but he's played more as a '10'.

"I hope he does go, because the drink-driving incident was unforgivable," he stated. "It was during a week when we had games, and it doesn't represent what the club is about.

"I want him gone, and I'd happily let him go on a free," Moore added. "I don't want him at the club."

In a bid to potentially compensate for Ducksch's exit, Moore has urged Birmingham to target the services of Scott Twine and Anis Mehmeti from Bristol City and Ipswich Town.

Twine, 27, has been the subject of exit talk from Ashton Gate, but in his first start of the new season, ironically netted in the 2-2 draw in B9 on Saturday afternoon.

"If he (Ducksch) goes, we need to replace him as a '10'," our fan pundit continued.

"We desperately need someone as a '10' who wants the ball, can take the ball on, run with the ball and dictate play.

"There's obviously been loads of links abroad with certain players. If we're recruiting in England, though, there's only two I'm screaming for, and that's Scott Twine and (Anis) Mehmeti.

"They're the two I really want," Moore claimed.

"At this point, I will just take anyone who's a '10' that can dictate play and go forward.

"Let Ducksch go on a free for all I care as long as we get a replacement. Even if you have that player and occasionally play Jay (Stansfield) there, I'm OK with that.

"We've got to bring someone who can dictate play in. If we don't do that, there's no point in us competing this season as we will do nothing.

"That's how serious we need a 'number 10' for me."

Of course, Birmingham have already come unstuck in their pursuit of a versatile playmaker this summer, with Joe Gelhardt opting to reunite with Hull City despite reportedly being on the cusp of a move to St. Andrew's.

Mehmeti has been spoken about as an ideal signing for the club beforehand, and it is no real surprise given his recent record in the division with Ipswich and Bristol City, in particular during the 2024/25 season where 12 goals helped the Robins reach the play-offs.

However, those in the West Midlands could be left feeling a tinge of disappointment as both Derby County and Wrexham are said to be monitoring the 25-year-old, in what would be a signal of intent given all three clubs' respective ambitions to make the top eight next May.
