FLW's Birmingham City fan pundit shares their thoughts on their club's potential move for Bristol City's Scott Twine this summer

Birmingham City are looking to further bolster their attacking options before the end of the summer window ahead of another campaign in which expectations will be high, as an interesting option may well have become available.

Birmingham have enjoyed a solid transfer window thus far, adding each of Jhon Solis, Luis Vazquez, Kristoffer Lund Hansen, Dael Fry, Max Bird, and James Beadle to their ranks, with more expected sooner rather than later.

The Blues fell just short of a play-off place last time around, as head coach Chris Davies is looking to ensure no similar mistakes are made this campaign by addressing all areas of the squad.

With Kyogo Furuhashi having left the club after a dismal spell at St Andrews, this has left a gap in the number ten role, as Joe Gelhardt was identified as a potential option before his subsequent move to Hull City recently.

Attention has recently turned to Sporting Gijon's Cesar Gelabert to fill that void, but Birmingham ought to be keeping tabs on someone else instead, especially after recent news.

English attacking-midfielder Scott Twine scored 11 and grabbed seven assists in 45 Championship games for Bristol City last season, enjoying another excellent year with the Robins.

The 27-year-old has previously enjoyed spells with the likes of Swindon Town, Newport County, MK Dons, Burnley, and Hull City before making the move to Ashton Gate in January 2024, where he has been one of their main men ever since.

However, new head coach Michael Skubala has left him out of the starting XI for both home clashes against Walsall and Millwall, as Pete O'Rourke has since reported that a surprise exit before the summer deadline could be on the cards.

No names of clubs have been specifically mentioned as yet, though one of those could be Birmingham, as rumours rumble on.

Football League World's Birmingham fan pundit, Jason Moore, has shared their thoughts over a potential move for Twine, and whether he is a player they would like to see at St Andrews if possible.

Jason said: "Well, the thing I've said to you guys most of the summer is we need Championship experience. Get people that know the league, and I think Scott Twine is absolute quality.

"I wanted him when he was at MK Dons, I wanted him when he was at Burnley and was looking to leave Burnley. So if Scott Twine's available, I think you go and get him, simple as that.

"If you can't get Scott Twine, the only other player I'd really be wanting us to look at, if you can go get him, if he's available, and if they want to let him go, is Mehmeti from Ipswich. That's the only other one where I'd look past Scott Twine and go, 'yeah, I'll have him instead.'

"I genuinely think Scott Twine's class, especially for the level he's playing in the Championship. Can he do it in the Premier League? Probably a question to be asked, seeing as Burnley let him go.

"But I'd snap him up, absolutely snap him up for someone that gets the figures he does. In the Championship, you'd be silly not to take him. So yeah, I'd go for Scott Twine all day long."

Scott Twine would be an excellent pickup for Chris Davies at Birmingham City this summer

Blues began their 2026/27 Championship campaign with a goalless draw away to Sheffield United, and though they looked the more likely of the two sides to go on and claim all three points, their lack of attacking prowess was evident.

Davies will be under increased pressure to get things right this time around after a rocky season last time around, and adding Twine to the mix would only help his case.

The 27-year-old still has two years remaining on his deal at Ashton Gate, though having already completed a deal for Bird, Birmingham should be back on the phone to enquire about Twine as soon as possible.

Twine would instantly improve their starting XI, capable of playing through the middle as a ten or off the left, as Davies mustn't allow this potential bargain to slip away.
