Hull City came out on top in a dramatic 3-2 win over Birmingham City at St Andrew’s, in the 10th round of the EFL Championship. Despite having less of the ball, Hull made their chances count to take all three points.
The game got off to a bizarre start when Birmingham’s Jack Robinson inadvertently put the ball into his own net in the 11th minute, giving Hull an early lead.
The Blues quickly hit back, though, with Jay Stansfield finishing from close range in the 27th minute to level the scores. Hull regained the advantage just before half-time when Regan Slater headed home from Lewie Coyle’s delivery, sending the teams into the break 2-1 up.
Birmingham pressed hard after the interval, enjoying plenty of possession and creating chances, but their efforts were dealt a blow in the 59th minute when Robinson was shown a red card, leaving the hosts down to ten men.
Even with the numerical disadvantage, Birmingham continued to fight, but Hull’s defence held firm.
In the dying moments, Hull wrapped up the win when Joe Gelhardt converted Liam Millar’s assist in the 93rd minute, putting an end to any hope of a late Birmingham comeback.
The victory lifts Hull up the Championship table, while Birmingham will be looking to bounce back in their next match.
