The Ammies have been taken over by a consortium led by the two Manchester United greats
Birmingham City minority stakeholder and legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady has issued a congratulatory message to Gary Neville and David Beckham after the Manchester United greats lead Salford City's new ownership group.
The 'Class of 92's affiliation with the League Two club has been well-documented over the past decade, with the duo previously part-owners of the club alongside former teammates and United legends Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and Ryan Giggs, as the Ammies rose from non-league and into the EFL with the majority of investment coming through Singaporean businessman, Peter Lim.
Neville acquired Lim's 50% stake in the Greater Manchester side last August as the 71-year-old moved on from the boardroom, with the new consortium, which involves nine shareholders and includes Declan Kelly and Lord Mervyn Davies, investing a reported $15-20m (£11.3-15m) into the club as they look to become a Championship side in the next five years.
Brady, of course, has become accustomed to the limelight in the EFL's lower two divisions this season as Birmingham invested heavily in St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park, Chris Davies' playing squad and the academy setup, which has now been granted Category One status for the first time in three years.
And, with exciting times lying ahead for those in B9 amid continued talk of a 60,000-seater stadium and £2-3bn 'Sports Quarter' complex, Brady is also looking forward to seeing how Salford can take full advantage of their own fresh investment.
Unsurprisingly, Beckham and Neville immediately jumped on their respective social media platforms to issue messages of their own, stating how much Salford has impacted their sporting and personal lives, with the Californian subsequently giving his reaction to such developments later in the day.
The aforementioned Kelly is the founder of Consello, an advisory and investment firm which the former United full-back and New England Patriots' group are both partners of, with such links highlighted by the 47-year-old on his personal Instagram story.
"Congrats to my friends and Consello partners @gneville2 and Declan Kelly for the formation of their new ownership group alongside my friend @davidbeckham at @salfordcityfc," Brady said.
The American concluded: "See you up the road!"
The ending of his message potentially hints towards potential battles in the upper echelons of the EFL and beyond in the future between Birmingham and Salford, who have never played against each other before.
However, Beckham and Neville do have previous footballing links with Brady, who owns a 3% stake in the B9 outfit, as they were both spotted at St Andrew's last September for the first of Blues' two 'Hollywood' clashes against fellow League One promotion-winners, Wrexham.
The game ended 3-1 to the eventual EFL points record holders as a Jay Stansfield double and the first of Tomoki Iwata's eight goals in all competitions cancelling out Jack Marriott's early strike for the Red Dragons.
Speaking on CBS Golazo's UEFA Champions League coverage the following night, Beckham, who also owns a stake in MLS side, Inter Miami, said; "It was great last night, the atmosphere was amazing. I've not seen an atmosphere like that for a long time. The Birmingham fans and the Wrexham fans were incredible."
Therefore, whilst it will be a challenge to replicate such hostility at the Peninsula Stadium - which holds just 5,108 supporters - immediately, Beckham and Neville were given a taste of the stature of the clubs which Salford hope to be competing against in the near future.
Karl Robinson guided them to an eighth-place finish this season in the fourth-tier, finishing just one point behind Chesterfield in the play-offs after a disappointing 2-2 draw against already-relegated Carlisle United.
The duo will hope the former MK Dons man snubs reported interest from third-tier newcomers, Cardiff City, and that he can build a squad capable of sustaining a promotion bid with the fresh eight-figure cash injection.
