Birmingham City host Bristol City in the Championship at St Andrew's on Saturday, 22 August 2026, with the hosts aiming to build on an opening point and the visitors seeking a first league win after starting in the relegation places.
Birmingham City have the upper hand across the recent meetings listed, with 11 wins to Bristol City's five and two draws, and return home looking to turn early steadiness into momentum.
Birmingham opened with a goalless draw at Sheffield United and also won at Swansea City in the EFL Cup. City lost 2-0 to Millwall on matchday one and were beaten by Walsall in the EFL Cup, so a response on the road would steady their start.
The Robins are without defenders Cameron Pring and Luke McNally through injury, while midfielder Adam Randell is suspended. Birmingham are missing Taylor Gardner-Hickman because of injury.
Birmingham kept a clean sheet on the opening day, had 55% possession and delivered 26 open-play crosses with 15.38% accuracy, so width could again be a route. The Robins had 34% of the ball against Millwall and finished with 43 clearances and 11 blocks, but no shots on target, so added attacking punch may be vital to relieve pressure.
Birmingham sit 15th on one point and could climb the early table with a win. City are 23rd without a point and could move out of the relegation places if they take something. Birmingham then visit Wrexham, while The Robins host Portsmouth next.
