Rovers ran out 2-0 winners away to the Baggies on Wednesday evening, despite not having a permanent manager in the dugout.

Andreas Weimann has sent a one-word message to his Blackburn Rovers teammate, Makhtar Gueye, after the striker scored a stunning brace against West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday evening.

Rovers to a crucial three points at The Hawthorns in an excellent 2-0 win against the Baggies in the wake of a very difficult week that has seen their now former head coach, John Eustace, leave the club for Championship strugglers, Derby County.

David Lowe took charge of the team for the clash in the West Midlands, and helped guide them to a fantastic victory that has seen them overtake Tony Mowbray's side and make their way into fifth place ahead of this weekend's fixtures.

The battle for the play-off remains incredibly tight between several clubs, but Blackburn have put themselves in an excellent position with just 14 games to go and they have Gueye to thank for his help in that.

Weimann sends one-word reaction to Gueye after Baggies brace

It's been a bizarre few days for Rovers, with supporters, players and the remaining backroom staff having to club together to continue their fight for the play-off places.

West Brom themselves have been in strong form since Mowbray, who was once in the home dugout at Ewood Park, took over. However, they were unable to contain an outstanding Gueye, and a second half double salvo saw Blackburn take an all-important three points at The Hawthorns.

The 27-year-old opened the scoring with just his fourth Championship goal of the season in the 47th minute with an incredible acrobatic effort that Joe Wildsmith was unable to keep out.

Just after the hour mark, the Senegalese striker found time in the box to bring the ball down and fire it into the back of the net to double his side's lead and hand all three points to the visitors.

Gueye posted on his Instagram account after the game, gleefully writing: "Double the faith, Double the effort, Double the goals 🥅 .. Thanks for the support Rovers fans 💙🤍"

His Blackburn teammate, Weimann, replied with just a single word: "Sensational 😍🔥"

Blackburn must carry this mentality forward into the final 14 games

After Eustace's departure, there is now a hunt for a new head coach and supporters will hope that one is found sooner rather than later, despite Lowe's success against West Brom.

Blackburn need somebody who can come in and keep this new siege mentality that the team has found itself with. It was on full show at The Hawthorns, with those on the pitch working excellently with those in the stand behind the goal to help secure a vital win.

While it was the new Derby manager who was in charge of the side and helped put them into the play-offs, the players have not changed and they know they have a responsibility to continue where they left off.

Rovers have as good a chance as any to end the season in the play-offs, and a surprise promotion to the Premier League could still be in order despite a frustrating few days.
