Blackburn are facing a delay in their bid to sign Bournemouth's Daniel Jebbison on loan, which could see rival interest emerge in the attacker.

After Michael O’Neill did a fine job in keeping Blackburn in the Championship, Blackburn have turned to former boss Tony Mowbray to lead them in the 2026/27 season.

The experienced ex-Sunderland boss needs no introduction to EFL fans, as he has done several great jobs over the years, which includes his previous spell at Ewood Park.

So, Mowbray’s appointment makes sense, and he will be seen as a safe pair of hands as Rovers look to kick-on. However, there’s no denying that Blackburn need a productive window, as the squad is lacking in key areas.

Update provided on Blackburn’s pursuit of Bournemouth’s Daniel Jebbison

In an ideal world, Mowbray will get as many new signings as early as possible, which will give him a chance to work with the group in pre-season.

Of course, we know it doesn’t always work like that, but bringing in Daniel Jebbison from Bournemouth on loan was one deal that Blackburn were hoping to get done swiftly.

However, in a fresh update, Alan Nixon has revealed that the Cherries are delaying the move as they have still yet to sign off, even though a deal has been agreed.

He explains how Bournemouth told Rovers they won’t sanction the loan until a replacement arrives, and the delay means there is ‘still a chance of late rival bidders’ coming to the table.

It’s also said that Jebbison has ‘encouraged’ interest from Blackburn in the past, so there is no suggestion that he is looking to join another club, but, until the deal is complete, there will be worry at the Championship side.

This is a big summer for Blackburn, as they won’t want to be battling relegation again next season, but, unless they improve the squad, then it’s hard to see anything other than a scrap for survival.

If they could bring in Jebbison, it would be a good start to the window, as he would bring physicality to the attack, and he has experience of the Championship.

He spent last season with Preston, and a return of six goals in 38 games isn’t that impressive, but it doesn’t tell the whole story, as Jebbison does bring other qualities to the game.

Nevertheless, that’s a tally he will want to improve, and working under Mowbray could be just what he needs at this stage of his career.

The 62-year-old has a reputation as a coach who can develop players, with the likes of Harvey Elliott and Amad Diallo just two individuals who have benefited from playing for Mowbray in the past.

That’s not to say Jebbison is anywhere near that level, but he has plenty of attributes that could take him a long way, and Mowbray may know how to get the best out of him, and, at 22, there is still a lot of time for him to get better.

From the outside, it’s a move that suits all parties, and it would clearly be a setback for Blackburn if they can’t get it over the line now, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out.
