The Lancashire club announced news of the transfer via a post on their official club website earlier today.
Maxwell has spent the last three months with Blackburn Rovers after joining the Barclays Women’s Championship club in early February. The Northern Ireland international midfielder made three league appearances for the club in which she scored one goal. Maxwell was a member of a Blackburn Rovers side that recorded a highest-ever points tally and league ranking this season.
With the 2023/2024 Barclays Women’s Championship campaign having now come to an end, Maxwell has opted to return home to her native Northern Ireland where she has joined former club Cliftonville. The midfielder represented the club prior to her brief spell in the English professional game. Maxwell was a NIFL Women’s Premiership League Cup winner with Cliftonville in her previous spell at Solitude while she also represented the club in the early stages of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Maxwell is the first player to leave Blackburn Rovers during the close season. Further squad news is likely to be announced by the club over the course of the summer.
