Blackburn Rovers have made an ambitious loan enquiry for Liverpool outcast Harvey Elliott this summer

Blackburn Rovers have made a sensational loan enquiry for Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott in an attempt to bring the 23-year-old back to Ewood Park for the campaign.

Indeed, according to Alan Nixon via his Patreon, Blackburn have lodged an enquiry to Liverpool over the potential loan of England youth international Elliott this summer.

Elliott previously spent the 2020/21 season on loan at Ewood Park from the Reds to great success, and the Lancashire-based outfit, led by Tony Mowbray, are keen to run it back one more time.

It's been a quiet summer for Blackburn, as Mowbray has returned to his place at the helm at Ewood Park again following Michael O'Neill's rejection, and has overseen just a couple of additions.

Jayden Fevrier has joined from Stockport County permanently, whilst Sam Morsy arrives as a free agent following his release from Bristol City, as Moussa Baradji's loan move from Swiss side Yverdon became permanent before his return.

With just days remaining until the summer deadline, Blackburn are running out of time to add to their squad, as Mowbray has attempted to sanction the incredible return of Elliott in the final stages of the window.

Elliott, 23, has had a difficult couple of years, falling out of favour at Liverpool before spending last season out on loan with Aston Villa, where, despite lifting the Europa League trophy, made just nine appearances in all competitions for Unai Emery's side.

Now, having featured for the Reds in pre-season, Spanish outfit Valencia are reportedly interested in bringing him to La Liga, as Blackburn face stiff competition to secure his services.

Elliott is in the final year of his deal at Anfield, and a loan move would surely be subject to whether a fresh contract can be agreed with Liverpool before heading out on loan, something that Blackburn must rely on happening if they are to have any chance of bringing him back to Ewood Park for the year.

It goes without saying that Elliott would be a remarkable coup for any club in the Championship, including Blackburn.

Whilst the former Fulham midfielder has endured a tough couple of years, with nearly 150 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions under his belt, including 15 goals and 21 assists, Elliott has immense pedigree and experience for a 23-year-old.

The Englishman made his professional debut for Fulham at 15 years and 174 days old, and then briefly became the youngest Premier League player in history with the West London outfit at 16 years and 30 days old, before Arsenal's Ethan Nwaneri broke that record some three years later.

Capable of playing anywhere behind the main centre-forward, Elliott would slot straight into Blackburn's starting XI with ease.

Whether Blackburn could genuinely pull this deal off comes down to a myriad of factors, with one being his current deal at Liverpool, with it being highly unlikely that Andoni Iraola's side would loan him out for the year before potentially losing him on a free in 2027.

Whether Elliott would even be willing to take a step back down to the Championship with Blackburn is also doubtful, but that won't stop Rovers from attempting to complete this potentially season-altering deal.
