Blackburn Rovers have confirmed the dismissal of Valerien Ismael from his post after a run of just one win in 14 league games, leaving the club three points adrift in the relegation zone, and are now on the hunt for a replacement.

Blackburn find themselves in a precarious position towards the foot of the EFL Championship table, with only Sheffield Wednesday and Oxford United beneath them at this stage.

The former Premier League champions took action on deadline day to sack French boss Valerien Ismael from his post, with the former Barnsley, West Brom, and Watford head coach leaving with a dismal record of just 1.02 points per match.

The Lancashire-based outfit are therefore on the hunt for a new boss, with the likes of David Wagner, Slaven Bilic, and Tony Mowbray being named as potential candidates, alongside former Wales boss Chris Coleman.

Coleman is probably best known for his time in charge of Fulham and Sunderland, the latter of which heavily featured in their 'Sunderland Til I Die' series on Netflix, but has spent time managing in the likes of Spain, Greece, China, Cyprus and Belgium.

Most recently, he was with Asteras Actuator in the Greek top flight, where he left in mid-January 2026 after just 13 games in charge, and has now emerged as a candidate for the top job at Ewood Park.

Chris Coleman would be an uninspiring choice as the new Blackburn Rovers boss

Football League World's Blackburn fan pundit, Simon, has shared their thoughts over the club's link to Coleman as their new boss, and whether they think the 55-year-old Welshman would be a good replacement for Ismael in the Ewood Park dugout.

Simon said: "Yeah, I've seen that name being thrown about quite a lot for the Blackburn job. I don't think it'd be someone we would like at Rovers."He hasn't really coached in England for a while. His record hasn't been great in years. Again, he's another manager. He's only spent, you know, one or two years within a club and hasn't really seemed to have done anything."He has links to the club previously. Obviously, he has played at Blackburn at some point, but I just don't think that would be a good appointment for all."The club really need to get the fans on side, and they really need to make a positive appointment, and Chris Coleman just wouldn't be that positive appointment."

Blackburn Rovers must get their next appointment right to avoid a relegation battle

It is imperative that Blackburn get this next appointment spot on, otherwise they face the very real possibility of dropping into the third tier for next season.

Whether Coleman is the answer to their prayers remains to be seen, though the Welshman has not managed in England since his stint with Sunderland between November 2017 and April 2018, overseeing the Black Cats' demise to League One.

It's far from an inspired appointment, to say the least, though Coleman does have some familiarity with the club, having played 28 times for them in the Premier League between 1995 and 1997.

Whoever takes charge of the club has a huge job on their hands to keep the club afloat, though the squad is more than talented enough to be able to claw themselves out of trouble before too long.
