Blackburn Rovers played their last match in the Premier League over 13 years ago now, with the Lancashire outfit having spent 13 of the last 14 seasons playing their football in the Championship.

The former Premier League champions' downfall coincidentally started around the time of the takeover by Indian poultry giants Venkys, as, just weeks into their tenure, they decided to sack manager Sam Allardyce.

From minute one, therefore, the Venkys became somewhat despised among Rovers supporters, and in April 2025, they announced that they did not want to sell the club, and just four months later, they had invested £4.8 million into the club.

Rovers are hovering in a dangerous position in the 2025/26 season, with the threat of relegation to League One a possibility if consistency is not found.

Blackburn Rovers owners don't 'have any ambitions to take the club forward'

Football League World's Blackburn Rovers fan pundit, Simon, has shared his views on whether he believes the Venkys are the right owners to take the club forward.

Simon said: "Absolutely not. I don't think any Blackburn fan in their right mind would trust Venkys to take the club forward.

"Ever since they took over the club, we have only gone in one direction, and that's backwards.

"They haven't been seen at the club since before Covid, they don't really seem to be present at the club, they don't really seem to have any ambitions to take the club forward.

"If you look at other owners who have brought clubs, they have taken the step in the right direction, wanting to move forward and aim for the Premier League; we just don't seem to be doing that whatsoever.

"There is so many cutbacks that keep happening at the club, and the only direction that Blackburn are going, unfortunately, is backwards and downwards."

Blackburn Rovers have stagnated under the ownership of the Venkys

Understandably, Blackburn fans are pessimistic over whether their current ownership model is best suited to take the club forward this season and beyond, but it seems like the Venkys are going nowhere just yet, much to the frustration of fans.

Last season, despite having the club just outside of the play-off picture, former manager John Eustace left the club for relegation-threatened Derby County, in a move which more or less sums up the ownership of the Venkys at Blackburn.

Before that, Danish coach Jon Dahl Tomasson twice offered to leave the club, saying: "It was not the project anymore that I signed up to do and I asked to be allowed to leave. They did not want that, but finally, after the January transfer window, they accepted it and I’m thankful for that."

Despite collecting healthy fees over the years for the likes of Sammie Szmodics, Adam Armstrong, and Adam Wharton, reinvestment in the squad has been scarce, with their most expensive arrival post-2020 being the signing of Szmodics from Peterborough in 2022.
