Blackburn are searching for a new head coach after Michael O’Neill declined the role, having kept Rovers in the Championship while also leading Northern Ireland.
As reported by ExpressAndStar.com, O’Neill replaced former Albion manager Valerien Ismael in February on a deal to the season’s end while retaining his national-team post.
The 56-year-old recorded five wins, five draws and five defeats. Rovers finished 20th, one place and one point above Albion, and drew 0-0 at Ewood Park on Easter Monday.
He had already said he could not combine both roles on a permanent basis, and after discussions he will continue as Northern Ireland head coach in his second spell, focusing on the European Championship campaign. Northern Ireland did not qualify for the World Cup this summer.
Bookmakers have installed Leicester boss Gary Rowett as early favourite, though he remains in post at King Power Stadium and his position is uncertain. Tony Mowbray and Slaven Bilic are also listed, along with David Wagner, Graham Alexander, Chris Coleman and Will Still.
Meanwhile, Albion’s Jayson Molumby played 45 minutes for the Republic of Ireland in a 2-0 warm-up win over Real Murcia B. Molumby and goalkeeper Max O’Leary, who is out of contract after a short-term deal at The Hawthorns, are with Ireland at a training camp in Spain. They face Grenada in a friendly this weekend.
