Liverpool have had one of the most in-demand players around directly offered to them, according to reports. Now they've got a massive decision.
Liverpool enter the January transfer window knowing full well that they'll have to upgrade their squad. The summer dealings haven't gone as planned - though, they'd likely need to make moves even if they had.
The Reds wanted to sign Marc Guehi for the season and had a deal lined up. Crystal Palace collapsed it right at the last minute, however, leaving Liverpool somewhat short at the back.
At least, shorter than they wanted to be. They were then left undeniably short when Giovanni Leoni was ruled out for the season with a knee injury.
Liverpool, then, only have three senior centre-back options. One of those, Joe Gomez, has struggled to stay consistently fit while injuries to full-backs have sent him out to the right-flank more than in the middle.
A centre-back is needed, in other words. And it appears one has been offered to them.
TZ in Germany claims Dayot Upamecano has been directly offered to Liverpool. The Frenchman is out of contract in the summer and Bayern Munich are struggling to renew his deal.
It's the same situation that the Reds are in with Ibrahima Konate, of course. Upamecano, both an international teammate of Konate's as well as a former club teammate, has been in sparkling form for Bayern and finds himself in high demand.
Such high demand, in fact, that he's asking for €18m per year in a contract. It's an enormous amount and he wants €16m of that as a basic rate. He's topping that with a €65m release clause in the the deal, too - something Bayern don't want to hand out.
