England edged Norway after extra time to reach the World Cup semi-finals. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Leeds fans rode every high and low.
Jordan Pickford misjudged Andreas Schjelderup’s cross-shot and Norway led. Jude Bellingham levelled on half-time, and a Harry Kane finish was ruled offside.
Tuchel’s side laboured after the restart. Torbjorn Heggem saw a goal disallowed and Kristoffer Ajer struck the bar, before Bellingham pounced on Orjan Nyland’s error. It stayed level after 90 minutes.
The Real Madrid star then struck again in extra time, his sixth of the tournament. Turpin awarded a penalty when Spence was fouled by Oscar Bobb, but VAR overturned it and Kane waited in vain. England held on to set up Wednesday’s Atlanta semi-final against Argentina or Switzerland.
At the break, Kirsty Goodman felt England needed to wake up, praising Gordon and Bellingham. Paul Nelson thought Norway were swarming them but that Bellingham, Kane and Gordon could still do it.
Jenny Harrison could not call it as extra time began, while Jacqueline Rose Lawson backed a win. After full-time, Helen Louise Patterson accepted it was not England’s best. Nikki Hampson spoke of heart-in-mouth moments, Rob Wilkinson wanted faster starts, Mick Jackson praised the fight and Kaltun Burco said the team left everything out there.
