Pep Guardiola will be without Omar Marmoush when Manchester City host Manchester United for their first derby of the season.

Indeed, it has been confirmed this afternoon that a knee injury sustained by Marmoush whilst on international duty with Egypt has ruled him out of Sunday’s fixture.

The winger, who signed for City in a £59 million deal from Eintracht Frankfurt last January, was spotted arriving back in Cairo on crutches to undergo further scans.

Marmoush joins a growing absentee list at the Etihad

As well as Marmoush, Guardiola is set to be without a host of players, some of whom are considered trusted lieutenants at the Etihad, such as Josko Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic.

The frontline is also depleted amidst the absences of Phil Foden and Rayan Cherki, heaping even more pressure on Erling Haaland to find the back of the net when City host their arch-rivals.

Who’s unavailable for United?

Elsewhere, Ruben Amorim also has injury setbacks to navigate himself.

In the first half of United’s 3-2 win over Burnley before the international break, Matheus Cunha was forced off with an apparent hamstring injury after pulling up and requiring treatment from the physios.

At the interval, Mason Mount also seemingly indicated to Amorim that he was unable to continue, as he was replaced by Kobbie Mainoo when play resumed.

Lisandro Martinez remains sidelined whilst he recovers from an anterior cruciate ligament tear, whilst Diogo Dalot withdrew from Portugal camp prematurely after feeling muscle discomfort.

Fans can expect updates on the players’ conditions when Amorim addresses the media towards the end of the week.
