Boca Juniors returned to work after a Monday off following the 2-0 win over Newell’s at La Bombonera, with encouraging updates before Vélez.

According to LaNumer12.com.ar, Claudio Úbeda’s side had Edinson Cavani and Miguel Merentiel training normally as preparations began for Sunday in Liniers.

Cavani took part in a football session with those who played fewer than 45 minutes against Newell’s, facing a youth selection. Merentiel completed physical drills with the group. Usual recovery work was set for the starters.

Both forwards could reappear at José Amalfitani on Sunday, depending on how their recoveries progress. Cavani is looking to move past the lumbago that has ruled him out of every match played so far in 2026. Merentiel is coming back from the muscle tear suffered in the Olimpia friendly in San Nicolás.

Úbeda’s team will chase a third league victory. The Liga Profesional de Fútbol listed the fixture for Sunday, 8 February, at 22:15 at José Amalfitani in Liniers.

Nazareno Arasa will referee, with assistants Facundo Rodriguez and Miguel Savorani, and Maximiliano Macheroni as fourth official. VAR duties fall to Nicolás Ramírez and Javier Delbarba.

The fourth round match in the Torneo Apertura 2026 will be broadcast on TNT Sports Premium, available via the Pack Fútbol subscription.
