Boca confirm three departures, Weigandt to Liga de Quito | OneFootball

According to LaNumer12.com.ar, Boca have confirmed the departures of Marcelo Weigandt, Mauricio Benítez and Gonzalo Gelini as they continue to refresh the first-team squad.

Weigandt, a right-back, will join Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito on loan, with an obligation to buy triggered by sporting objectives.

The academy graduate departs after 88 appearances and three goals, winning the Superliga 2019/20, Copa Argentina 2021, Copa de la Liga 2022 and Liga Profesional 2022. He previously spent time at Gimnasia de La Plata and later played for Inter Miami.

Benítez has completed a permanent move to Royal Antwerp FC in Belgium. The 2004-born midfielder, a key figure in Boca’s 2023 U-20 Copa Libertadores and Intercontinental triumphs, had already been on loan there. Boca retain 20% of any future sale, and he featured only 11 times for the first team.

Forward Gelini, born in 2006, heads to Peñarol in Uruguay on a one-year loan with no purchase option. The aim is to gain competitive minutes before returning to fight for a place.

Boca’s business is ongoing, with work to secure a fifth signing before the window closes on 2 September. Coach Rodolfo Arruabarrena has asked president Juan Román Riquelme for a centre-back, and he said talks are happening, time is short and any recruit must raise the level rather than add numbers, with some injuries in defence.
