Boca Juniors have formally offered Rodolfo Arruabarrena the head coach role following Claudio Úbeda's departure, with talks under way.

According to SuperDepor.com, club president Juan Román Riquelme made the approach in recent hours after a few days of reflection following their Libertadores group-stage exit, and the 50-year-old has asked for a few hours to respond.

The Vasco previously led Boca from 2014 to 2016 after spells with Tigre and Nacional de Uruguay, succeeding Carlos Bianchi.

He oversaw 75 matches, winning 47, losing 15 and drawing 13, and lifted the Torneo Argentino and Copa Argentina in 2015.

That tenure also featured Boca's Libertadores disqualification against River Plate by CONMEBOL after the pepper spray incident, plus a Sudamericana exit to the same rivals in 2014.

Arruabarrena's most recent job was at Al-Taawoun in Saudi Arabia until February 2025. He has also coached the United Arab Emirates national team, Pyramids in Egypt, Shabab Al-Ahli in the UAE, Al-Rayyan in Qatar and Al-Wasl.
